I wasn't quite sure what to expect when meeting the spy, but the story he created for me is what caught be off guard the most. He, of course, wasn't my Uncle, but that was the story he decided to tell everyone. Overall it made sense to give us some sort of familial relationship especially given he was the highest ranking officer in the Military Police Brigade. No one dared to challenge his story even if they believed it to be a lie. Our full story was that I was visiting my Uncle, Kenny seemed to be his name, because I had dreams of being in the military but still needed the proper training. In a sense I was shadowing him, learning the tricks of the trade so that one day I could join to most powerful group of the military, the Police Brigade.

Being trained for 12 years as a warrior in Marley, I of course had no problem earning my keep. Everyone was amazed on how much I knew despite never training in the academy. It seemed likely that I could pass the exam and join the Brigade right away. Normally only the top ten cadets in the academy were allowed to join but my skills were beyond those expected from a cadet. Therefore it seemed likely I would be allowed to join if I chose to do so. It wasn't what I had in mind but if it helped to gain everyone's trust then I would do it. I hadn't planned to stay long but Marley had given me at least a year to get the job done. Kenny said he would vouch for me if I did need more time. Still I didn't want to let Zeke down since he was the one that saved me from getting expelled from the warrior program. I was valuable sure, but since I couldn't shift into a titan I wasn't worth as much as Zeke, Pieck or the other potential warriors.

In the end all that matter was capturing the Founding Titan. If I failed my job then Marley would have no choice but to implement their original plan which was the destruction of the walls protecting Paradis. In all honestly, I didn't care about the safety of the citizens here. They were devils and traitors that gave the Eldian race a bad name. What I did worry about was the safety of my fellow warriors. It was a long journey from Marley to Paradis. Pieck was able to make it the whole way but she was unique in that she could stay in her titan body for weeks at a time. The other warriors would not be able to do that which meant they would be vulnerable to titan attack. Therefore I had to complete my mission no matter what. I would find the Founding Titan and protect them from the dangers that lay outside Marley.

"Hey there kiddo!" Kenny's voice was so loud it startled me

"Oh hi Ke-I mean Uncle Kenny," I replied, trying to regain my composure as quickly as possible.

"So I have good news," the older man smiled. Before I could ask he continued "Commander Nile Dok has agreed to let you in the Military Police Brigade!"

"Wow, really?" I reply, my voice still a bit shaky with surprise

"Well, there's just one little thing you gotta do before that,"

"What's that?" I asked nervously

"You have to beat me in hand to hand combat,"

My jaw dropped slightly. Just looking at my 'Uncle' gave me the chills. Despite his upbeat personality, I could sense a dark evil within him. There was no way I would be able to beat him.

As if sensing my reservation he spoke, "Don't worry, kid. I'll go easy on you," he paused to lean down to my ear "Besides, you can't complete the mission if you can't get close to the King,"

Despite his promise, I couldn't suppress my nerves as I stuttered my question "Wh-When is the match?"

"Tomorrow at eight,"

I looked out the window. The sun was just setting which meant you had about 12 hours before my match.

"I'd get something to eat and some sleep. We still need to make it look realistic,"

***

Morning came a lot quicker than I thought and of course I overslept. I barely had time to get dressed before racing out to the courtyard. The dark eyed Commander didn't seem too pleased with my tardiness. The lines of his sculpted cheekbones seemed tighter than usual as he clenched his jaws in disapproval. Kenny on the other hand seemed happy, almost smug in his appearance as he stared at my messy hair and uniform. "Rough night my pretty little niece?" he taunted in a hushed tone.

"You're about to have a rough morning," I spat back.

"HA!" His laugh was so loud it echoed "There's the spunky girl I know!"

"Let's just get this over with, are you ready Miss Aubrey?" The Commander questioned before taking his seat.

"Yes sir!" I saluted.

"Good," he let out an irritated sigh "You may begin,"

I felt the blade slice my arm before I saw him pull it out. Kenny wasn't kidding when he said he'd make it realistic. A wound like this could normally be healed in no time, but I knew I needed to suppress the urge to heal since I couldn't afford to have people ask questions. Instead I focused all my energy into dodging his attacks. His reflexes were lightning fast, faster than I'd ever seen him during training. My plan was to tire him out before making my move, but he didn't slow down. From the corner of my eye I saw the Commander's eyes begin to drift. I needed to end this quickly to impress him. I waited from Kenny to strike again before grabbing a hold of his arm and twisting his hand to make him drop the knife. I followed with a swift knee to his stomach and an elbow to his back. As Kenny fell to the ground I realized my mistake just as Kenny's hand grasped the knife again. A quick flick of his wrist and he sliced my calf. Pain pulsated through my leg as blood sprang out from the wound.

But I didn't slow, I couldn't afford to. Pivoting on my good leg I dodged another swipe of his knife before slamming my foot down on his hand. The courtyard echoed with Kenny's profanities as he clutched his injured hand. Picking the knife up, I straddled his body while holding the blade to his neck. "Looks like I win," I smirked, nicking his skin when he tried to move.

"That's enough!" The Commander ordered as he came over to you.

"Miss Aubrey, please stand up and give me your weapon,"

You did as you were told, handing the blade to the Commander, handle first. "I don't appreciate your tardiness but you are a formidable soldier," his dark eyes stared into yours. "I would like to offer you a position in the military police,"

"I would be honored sir," I replied determinedly.

"Good," he lifted his chin in approval "Are your wounds okay?" he then asked while eyeing my arm and leg.

"I'll be okay," I replied

"You should still see the medic, when you're done meet me in my office and we'll get you started on your first assignment,"

A short but intense chapter. Hope you enjoy! Oh and artwork was done by the amazing :iconakarimarco: This is the second time I've featured their art, cause it's so goooood
