Smile [Levi x Reader] Part 15

You ran until you were nearly out of breath, stopping only to rest your feet before you head out of town. You were sure that Hanji's experiments must be done or at least close to done by now. You didn't know the way back to headquarters so you had to get back before they left. 

After taking a deep breath you continue jogging. Rounding the corner you saw some familiar uniforms. "Hey, Mikasa! Armin!" you yell excitedly when you noticed the tall raven next to the smaller blond. 

"[Name]!" They gasp as they turn around.    

"It feels like it's been so long!" you smile wholeheartedly at them.

Mikasa on the other hand, grabbed your arm frantically. "Is Eren okay? Did they do terrible things to him?!"

"Um, not that I know of," You were a little offended about her lack of concern for you. But then again she always cared more about Eren than anyone else. "I haven't been with him for that long actually," you continue. "I was in a coma for three weeks so I'm not sure what happened to him in the meantime,"

Armin's mouth dropped "You were in a coma?" his bright blue eyes wavered nervously. 

"Yeah I-"

"[Name]!" you turn to see who called you but instead saw all the rest your cadet friends. Everyone including from Sasha, Connie, Reiner, Bertrolt and Christa were there. 

"You're all here!" you smile quickly turns to a frown. "But...if you guys are here..." you eyes widen "Don't tell me you joined the Scout Regiment?!" You already knew most of them were interested in the group, but after their encounter with titans you had hoped they would have changed their minds. 

"Is there another reason why we'd be here?" Connie asked.

"Then...only Jean, Annie and Marco went to the Military police?" The group's eyes widened as they looked behind you. You gasp as you turn to see a tall boy with ash blond hair. "Not you, too!" you whine.

"Marco's dead," Jean replied solemnly. 

"H-Huh?" your voice stutters "What did you just say?" you look to him disbelievingly "Did you say Marco died?" He had to be kidding, right?

"Seems not everyone can die a dramatic death," Jean replied, his face rippling with anger. "No one knows how he died...He died where no one saw him, where no one noticed,"

"Marco is..." you words trailed off. You still didn't want to believe it but based on Jean's face and the sniffles behind you, you knew that he was telling the truth. 


"Alright recruits! Gather around!" One of the scout leaders called, breaking the silence "Your uniforms are here!"

"I-I have to go," Without saying goodbye you took off, eyes brimming with tears. You could still see Marco's hopeful face in your mind. He was always so humble, so caring. He didn't deserve to die! Your stomach lurched realizing that more of your friends were bound to die. They were so stupid for joining the Scout Regiment. Of course you had no say in the matter. What's done is done. At least you had solace knowing that Eren was still going to be with you. That he wouldn't die without you ever knowing about it. 

You ran blindly in the direction of the exit, pushing by the men who were handing out the Scout Regiment jackets. For once the 'Wings of Freedom' emblem didn't bring pride to you, instead symbolizing a death mark for all those who would wear it. Your friends seem to realize this as well, throwing the jacket around their shoulders in silence. 

Oroka seemed to sense your mood as you untied her from her post, nuzzling you gently in attempts to cheer you up. You buried your head into her neck, soaking her orange coat with your tears. Unbeknownst to you, a shadowy figure was slowly approaching. You didn't even notice until Oroka's whinny alerted you. 

"Who are you?!" you demand, holding your hands out in defense. 

"At ease soldier," the tall man commanded. By his thick blond eyebrows and icy blue eyes you quickly realized that it was Erwin Smith, Commander of the Survey Corps. He must have come down to watch the new recruits receive their jackets. 

"I'm sorry sir," you quickly lowered your hands and bowed in respect. 

"Why are you out here alone?" he questioned suspiciously. 

"She's not alone," Both you and the Commander look over to see Captain Levi approaching on his horse. "We were just about to head back to Headquarters," 

"I see," the Commander answered before turned to face you "Carry on then," 

You nod and climbed on top of Oroka. For once you were happy to see Levi. Something about the Commander's suspicious stare made you uneasy. He clearly wasn't pleased to see you, though you weren't quite sure why.  

"Let's head back [Name]," Levi said, turning his horse away from you. 

"Yes, sir," you replied, tapping Oroka into motion. 

You followed him quietly all the way to Headquarters. You were happy to see Eren's horse in the stable when you lead Oroka in. You gave Minikui a quick pat on his head before heading inside. Levi waited patiently by the entrance, his usual stoic face gave you no information to how he was truly feeling. Was he mad that you kissed him? Did he feel disrespected that you called him by his first name instead of 'Captain' or 'Sir'? 

You were about to head your own way when he called your attention. "Yes Sir?" you ask turning to face him. With quick strides he closed in on you. This is it. Your body freezes waiting to see what his punishment was. Instead he placed his lips against your cheek. It happened so quickly you thought you had imagined it. For the next second he was back where he was before. 

Hesitantly you touched your cheek, your fingers trailing over the place he connected with you. Your face burned hot with your own embarrassment. The scenario couldn't have been more uncomfortable for the both of you. "So um," he finally cleared his throat "Now we're even,"

"Sir?" you ask in confusion.

Finally his eyes locked with you "You kissed me, I kissed you. We're even," Without another word, the Captain turned on his heel and headed down the hall. Leaving you alone and very confused.
